Summary
Throughout history, science and technology have made huge leaps because of improvements in measurements. As Lord Kelvin said, “If you cannot measure it, you cannot improve it.” For example, the advancement in measurements just between the Hubble Space Telescope and the James Webb Telescope have exponentially expanded our understanding of the universe. The versatility of the Mars Curiosity Rover’s measurement capabilities has helped us understand so much more about the planet, Mars.
Basically, everything we touch, eat, see, and hear can be measured in some physical (chemical or biological) manner. The quality of these objects and measurements depend on valid, reproducible, and repeatable measurements. Our lives are impacted by measurements in more ways than we can possibly comprehend or list here. Let us learn how to make better measurements. The ASQ Metrology Handbook is a useful and comprehensive tool as we consider the many facets of measurement and supporting quality management systems.
Developed by experts in the field as a comprehensive and practical reference, The Metrology Handbook, Third Edition provides a foundation for understanding metrology and calibration principles and practices. This handbook is ideal for metrology, calibration, and quality professionals including calibration technicians and technologists, supervisors, managers, quality inspectors, auditors, those in testing laboratories, consultants, and teachers and instructors.
Whether you are changing disciplines in your career field, investing in your own continuous improvement journey, training your fellow calibration practitioners, or preparing for ASQ’s Certified Calibration Technician (CCT) exam, this handbook provides the information, guidance, and knowledge to help you achieve your goals.
